"A Study Into Pre-Apprenticeship Delivery Models and Their Labour Market Outcomes"

Dr. Phil Toner and Chris Lloyd

Pre-apprenticeship programmes have been in operation in Australia for many decades but it is an under-researched topic, especially from the point of view of organisations that deliver the programme to students.

Accordingly Group Training Australia considered it timely to reflect on recent NCVER research on the topic and undertake a detailed examination of pre-apprenticeship delivery organisations, their objectives, target groups, training content and student outcomes, and to identify some of the factors critical to pre-apprenticeships achieving their social and labour market outcomes.

"The Role and Contribution of Tradespeople and Technicians in Australian Research & Development"

The University of Western Sydney and Wiyanga recently completed a major report to the Federal Government's Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) on the role of tradespeople and technicians to Australia's research and development effort.

The report involved extensive interviews through many of the country's premier private and public sector research establishment and built on similar work by Dr. Phil Toner and Chris Lloyd on the labour market for trades and technicians over the last decade.

The report was presented to the DEWR staff in Canberra earlier this year and also to a conference of the OECD in Paris in July.
